The first groups of visitors at the nature school

Teijo Nature School blossomed in May, as did the surrounding nature!

The Nature School office, in the beautiful school building in Teijo, has been buzzing with activity as concepts for primary schools have been refined over the spring. There have also been a lot of practical issues to consider: where recycled writing pads work, where to get seat pads, what if you have a toilet emergency, how to make sausages in a national park as part of a workshop day... – oh yeah, and you also need to bring first aid supplies!

The coronavirus pandemic brought a bit of a challenge to the start, but luckily there are testers at home! Students from Teijo School helped refine the concepts by participating in workshops as the first test groups in March, after which we started arranging visits from other schools in Salo.

In May, we enthusiastically welcomed five groups of visitors from primary schools in Salo. We collected detailed feedback from the groups to develop the activities. These test workshops showed that in August we are ready to open the Teijo Nature School's electronic booking calendar. Through it, teachers of grades 3-6 in Salo can book a workshop day for their class in Teijo National Park. The workshop is free of charge and can be easily reached by using Paikku.

The Secrets of the Manor Forest workshop will introduce you to the story of one forest and stop to marvel at the diversity of nature. The goal is to enjoy nature and move around it boldly. The Forest and Poetry workshop will explore nature in Finnish poetry and poetry in Finnish nature. You can read more about the workshops under the heading Nature School Days .
