NATURE SCHOOL

Teijo Nature School offers students experiential learning within Teijo National Park. Instruction aligns with the curriculum and takes place in the surrounding natural environment—specifically in the ironworks villages of Teijo, Mathildedal, and Kirjakkala, as well as the nearby forests.

At Teijo Primary School, daily instruction emphasizes nature, with several subjects regularly taught outdoors throughout the year.

Teijo Nature School offers nature-focused days primarily to primary schools in Salo, but also to other educational units and organizations.

The goal is to enable as many children as possible to discover Teijo National Park through firsthand experience and learning. For teachers, the nature school concepts provide practical tools for implementing nature-based education in the vicinity of their own schools.

NATURE SCHOOL DAYS

Participants attend the nature school days with their own group. The class teacher is free to focus on supervising the group and observing the nature education professionally, while the Teijo Nature School’s environmental educator is responsible for the teaching content.

We began developing concepts for the nature school days in the autumn of 2021. In the spring of 2022, we implemented the first concepts with pilot groups. From the autumn of 2022 through the following autumn, the program involved offering these proven concepts to new groups. For the spring of 2024, a brand-new climate-themed workshop was developed in collaboration with the City of Salo.

BECOME A STUDENT AT TEIJO

Teijo School is currently a two-teacher primary school that is focused on growth and emphasizes nature-based education.

Nature is regularly used as a learning environment—at least once a week. Nature-based learning days serve as a shared experience that invigorates the week’s work and boosts community spirit.
