Cooperation with the City of Salo is intensifying

During the first two years of operation, the Teijo Nature School, maintained by the Teijo Area Village Association, has been visited by students from Salo primary schools and their teachers. The workshop days have been offered to schools free of charge with the support of the Ministry of the Environment's environmental education and awareness project grant and funding from the Village Association.

In September, middle school students from Salo will also be able to visit Teijo, when we open a very special workshop day for them in the landscapes of the national park. This time too, the project is funded. We are very happy that with the middle school groups, the number of students visiting the nature school will exceed 500 in autumn 2023!

Chanterelles have been found in abundance in Teijo National Park this autumn.

Salo primary education has received special state funding for the development of climate and sustainability education in the academic years 2022-2024. The project is called Sustainable Development in Salo Primary Education . Environmental educator Johanna Laine, who leads the project in addition to her own work, works as a biology and geography lecturer at Armfelt School. Johanna says:

"The purpose of the project is to support a change in the operating culture of schools and the growth of students towards a more sustainable lifestyle. During the project, we will also collaborate with Teijo Nature School by jointly creating operating models that will inspire a change in the mindset of young people towards a more sustainable lifestyle and an appreciation of biodiversity."

In the 2023-2024 school year, Teijo Nature School will offer forest days for 7th graders through project funding. The forest days are planned and led by Johanna Laine. Visiting teachers make reservations for the forest days through the Teijo Nature School's reservation calendar. In addition, the Teijo Area Village Association supports the forest days for upper grades by offering a "campfire service" on the shores of Lake Sahajärvi.
